The Public Works Director announced today that weather permitting, Sunnyside
Avenue between Roosevelt Avenue/U.S. Highway 61 and Irish Ridge Road will be
closed to through traffic on Friday, November 3, 2006 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00
p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday, November 4th and 5th between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m.

The closure is required to allow a safe work zone for the City’s contractor to
accomplish required sanitary sewer construction. It was the intent of both the
City and the contractor to accomplish this phase of the project without closing
Sunnyside Avenue. However, due to the unanticipated instability of the sewer
trench walls, the work cannot be completed in a safe manner without removing the
vibrations caused by vehicular traffic. Shipley Contracting has agreed to work
through the weekend to minimize the affect on commuting and school traffic and
we will make every effort to keep the closure time as short as possible. The
posted detour will be Irish Ridge Road, Upper Flint Road and Highway 61.
